The Future is the Past - In Search of a Chinese Portrait
21.11.2014 - 10.12.2014
Chinesisches Kulturinstitut Wien, Wien / Österreich (Veranstaltungsort)
Yellow Mountain Contemporary Art, Hong Kong / Zhongguo
Using the Yellow Mountain collection as a base, this exhibition will introduce the audience to an exciting and complex image of human identity as seen through the eyes of a new generation of Chinese contemporary artists.
The exhibition, curated by Beijing-based curator, Wei Xing, will include artworks of 19 artists born between the 1950’s-1980’s, in various mediums: oil paintings, sculptures, installation, photography and video art. The exhibition will explore current debates in China about the characteristics and differences between generations as China continues to grow rapidly and Chinese society remains in a constant state of flux....
While Chinese artists are connected to and influenced by Western cultural and artistic trends, they are also forging a unique Chinese identity. The exhibition will highlight this evolving dynamic between Chinese contemporary and Western art.
