Off-road maps

„Off-road“ steht für die Orte, an denen ich in der Ukraine meine Performances gemacht habe – es ist ein Wort, das diese namenlosen Felder und Wälder beschreibt, in die ich eindrang und die ich dann spurlos verließ. „Off-road“ ist eine Metapher für die Ungewissheit – das vorherrschende Gefühl derjenigen, die sich im Exil befinden – aber gleichzeitig geht es um unzählige Möglichkeiten und Ziele. Es geht ums „nirgendwo“, aber auch ums „Wo auch immer“. Es ist so unheimlich, „off-road“ zu sein – weil man nicht weiß, was auf einen zukommt, nicht weiß, in welche Richtung man geht und wo (oder ob) man am Ende ankommt.... Und im Gegensatz zur „road“, zur Straße, führt der Weg „off-road“ zu keinem Ziel, denn er ist immerwährend."


«Off-road» is where I used to do my performances in Ukraine - it is a very word to describe those unnamed fields and woods which I was intruding and then leaving with no trace behind. «Off-road» is a metaphor of uncertainty - the dominating feeling for those who are in exile - but at the same time it is about countless possibilities and destinations. It is about «nowhere», but also - about «wherever». It is so scary to be «off-road» - because you don’t know what it may bring to you, don’t know the direction in which you’re going and where (or if) you will come at the end. And actually, compared to the «road», «off-road» doesn’t have any end - because it is an everlasting path."
