curious implantation is a project by artist Nicole Knauer.
It is an installation that transgresses space representing a hybrid creation 
made of synthetic cable ties that the artist has combined in an unconventional 
and quite personal way. Its dimensions are extended through costumes, videos, 
photographies and transformation through interaction.
The translucent, ephemeral but also transient characteristics of the artist's 
favorite materials and shapes that are represented in this installation can be 
regarded as a metaphor for the sphere between reality and absurdity. The 
artist's aim is to use synthetic waste products other than originally intended.
White synthetic cable ties have been combined manually to create a 50 qm 
sculpture as well as costumes that mutate into utopian formations and hybrid 
creations.

curious implantation represents a hybrid creation between nature and technology.
Its appearance is amorph, partly moved by human beings and partly by technology.
It is an odd installation resembling a scene of a science fiction movie.
When entering the gallery space the viewer finds a monstrous creation. The space 
and the sculpture are white thus visually blending into each other. The surface 
that appears organic at first sight turns out to be filigran-structured and 
synthetic when looking closer. Tightly woven white nylon cable ties cover the 
whole surface of the sculpture. When the viewer gets closer the sculpture starts 
moving getting alive.
The installation changes from a surreal artistic landscape to a strange creature 
that breathes. The appearance of the cable-ties-implanted surface creates a 
desire to touch it. At first sight the white sculpture seems to be soft like fur 
or a meadow. However when touching the surface the viewer experiences an 
irritation through the bristly resistance of the material. The indirect lighting 
makes the sculptue even softer looking and therefore emphasizes the contrast to 
the touching experience.
This is similar with the costumes.
They appear light and soft, the cable ties resemble feathers or soft ribbons. 
When being moved they rustle like multi-layerd taffeta. However they are heavy 
when being worn, the cable ties scratch and sting.
When undressing their inner creatures come to light: The cast off skin of a 
fable creature, the baleen of a whale, cuttlefish, mussels, corals, ticks or 
totally unknown creatures.

curious implantation ist ein Projekt der Künstlerin Nicole Knauer.
Das Projekt ist eine raumübergreifende Installation, mit von ihr auf persönliche 
Art und Weise zweckentfremdeten Kunststoff-Kabelbindern als hybride Kreation.
In ihrer Dimensionalität erweitert durch Kostüme, Video, Fotografien und 
Transformation durch Interaktion.
Das Transluzente, Fließende, aber auch das Vergängliche der von ihr bevorzugten 
Materialien und
Formen in dieser Arbeit ist interpretierbar als Metapher für den Grenzbereich 
zwischen Realität und Absurdität. Ihre Motivation ist die Zweckentfremdung der 
Kunststoff-Abfallprodukte.
Aus handgesteckten weißen Kunststoff-Kabelbindern gestaltet die Künstlerin eine 
50qm Raumplastik und Kostüme die zu utopischen Gebilden und hybriden Kreationen 
mutieren.

Amorph in ihrer Erscheinung, teils durch Menschen und teils durch Technik 
bewegt.
Eine kuriose Rauminstallation ähnlich einem Science Fiction Szenenbild.

Beim Betreten der Ausstellungsräumlichkeit findet der Rezipient zunächst ein 
monströses Gebilde vor.
Der Raum und die Skulptur sind ganz in weiß gehalten und fließen visuell 
ineinander.
Die organisch wirkende Oberfläche stellt sich bei genauerer Betrachtung als 
filigran strukturierte Kunststoffoberfläche heraus. Dicht verwobene weiße Nylon-
Kabelbinder überziehen die gesamte Fläche der Raumplastik.
Nähert sich der Rezipient der Raumplastik so entwickelt diese ein Eigenleben 
indem sie sich zu bewegen beginnt.
Sie verwandelt sich von einer surrealen Kunstlandschaft zu einer scheinbar 
seltsamen und atmenden Kreatur.
Das Erscheinungsbild der implantierten Kabelbinderoberfläche löst ein haptisches 
Bedürfnis beim Betrachter aus.
Auf den ersten Blick wirkt die weiße Raumplastik weich und flauschig wie bei 
einem Fell oder einer Wiese. Bei Berührung der Oberfläche erfährt der Rezipient 
jedoch eine Irritation durch die borstige Widerstandskraft des Materials.
Die indirekte Beleuchtung erhöht die Weichheit der Raumplastik in ihrer 
visuellen Erscheinung
und unterstreicht dadurch die Kontrastwirkung des Materials in seiner haptischen 
Wahrnehmung.
Ähnlich verhält es sich mit den Kostümen.
Sie wirken leicht und flauschig, die Kabelbinder erinnern an Federn oder weiche 
Bänder.
In der Bewegung rascheln sie wie mehrlagiger Taft.
Angezogen sind sie jedoch schwer, die Kabelbinder kratzen und stechen.
Legt man die Kostüme ab, kommt ihre innere Kreatur zum Vorschein:
Die abgestreifte Haut eines Fabelwesens, die Barten eines Wals, Tintenfische, 
Muscheln, Korallen, Zecken, oder gänzlich fremdartige Geschöpfe.
