Beverly Piersol: VIEW POINTS. preliminary notes. 2001 an installation project for Kunstcentrum Sittard, Holland, from March 22 - April 19, 1998 (curator, Jos Clevers) a space extending into other exhibitions spaces/corners/walls/doorways/windows elements for an archtiectural painting points of the given elements will be assigned as starting points for a linear definition of space the lines will be connected, the spaces filled in with black paint the painting redefines the architectural space; the linear definition forming new construction elements. images of positive and negative spaces turn into one another and extend into the surrounding spaces. the evolution and detailed concept will be worked out ,on-site" evolving out of the direct confrontation with the space and its use as not only an exhibition space but also as a meeting place for visitors and a space for other events statement: The redefinition of the space creates a DIALOGUE between the given spatial situation and the work, the work and the viewer: the work effects the space, the space effects the viewer, the viewer effects the work, the work effects the viewer the viewer effects the space, the space effects the work The installation projects are large paintings redefining a particular situation; I understand them also as large sculptures within which one must move; as one walks through an installation project one has different view points (visual positions), lines of vision, and cross references (perceptive overlaps) The graphic images change as one walks through a given space. The graphic images I chose to demonstrate in this documentation are those seen from different positions within this space; if one stands at these positions and moves from them one would see how the overlaps and the changes of graphic images change the experience and understanding of the space.
